Sri Subodharama Buddhist Centre and Monastery is located on the Colombo – Kandy highway in the city of Peradeniya. It is a charitable organization which is tax exempted by the Sri Lanka government. (Approved charity by act number 61 of 1992). The organization is managed by the Subodharama Sasana Seva Society.

The primary function of the SSBC is to instruct and train monks and those interested in the teaching and practices of the Theravada Buddhist tradition. It also serves a wider purpose, as a social and welfare organization.

The most venarable Wattegama Dhammawasa Nayaka Thero is the director and the chief monk of Sri Subodharama Buddhist Centre. He is also the Chief Monk and the President of Sri Lankarama Maha Viharaya in Ellen Grove, Brisbane and is the chief Sanghanayake of Australia.He has spent his life cultivating the practice of the teachings of Lord Buddha.Through his noble qualities, tireless efforts and service to the Sasana,he has established monasteries throughout the world. He has ordained many monks in to the maha sangha (great brotherhood of monks) and worked tirelessly towards the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical improvement of the people served by him.

A series of religious ceremonies as follows is to be held at the Sri Subodharama Buddhist Center on the 6 th and 9 th of July . On the 6 th July the ceremonial opening of the newly built Meditation Retreat Center at Ambuluwawa,Gampala is to take place at 2.00 P.M .

On the 9 th of July, a series of pinkamas will be held at the above Buddhist Center to mark the birthday of Ven. Wattegama Dhammawasa Nayaka Thero, the present Viharadhipathi who happens to be the Head of the Sri Lankaramaya, Brisbane , Australia and also the Chief Sangha Nayaka for Australia . To mark this event some cattle destined for slaughter will be released at 6.00 A.M and a blood donation campaign will be conducted till 2.00 P.M. The religious ceremony of offering 10000 lotus flowers to the Buddha will be held at 6.00 P.M

The annual ceremony of prize & certificate awarding to the student monks of the Sri Gnanalankara International Bhikku Training Institute on 9 th July is the event of special significance. It will commence at 2.00 P.M with a meeting to be held under the chairmanship of the president of the All Ceylon Amarapura Sect, the Most Venerable Aggamaha Panditha Kotugoda Dhammawasa Nayaka Thero which occasion will be graced by some distinguished visitors of the lay and the laity including some top government representatives. The ceremony will end with the distribution of 3 new Dhamma books.
